Egypt has officially won the right to host the 2027 World Darts Federation (WDF) World Cup, following a decisive vote during the 29th WDF General Assembly held in Seoul, South Korea, on the sidelines of the 2025 WDF World Cup. The Egyptian bid secured an absolute majority of votes from member nations, outpacing bids from both the United States and Hungary.
The World Cup, held biennially, will bring together the world’s leading darts nations for one of the sport’s most prestigious global events.
Egypt’s bid — prepared over four years by the Egyptian Darts Federation (EDF) — stood out for its comprehensive and well-structured proposal, focusing on logistical excellence, accessibility, and the readiness of Egypt to deliver a world-class sporting experience.
After careful evaluation and consultation, the EDF selected Sharm El-Sheikh and its International Conference Center as the host venue. The city’s proven record in hosting major international events — such as the World Youth Forum, COP27 Climate Conference, and World Billiards Championship — along with its outstanding infrastructure, security, and year-round pleasant climate, made it the ideal choice.
The Egyptian file was presented by Dr. Yehia Abdelkader, President of the Egyptian, Arab, and African Darts Federations, and received overwhelming attention and support from the attending delegations. The presentation included a comprehensive visual showcase and printed bid booklets distributed to all member nations.
Following the announcement, Dr. Abdelkader dedicated the victory to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, emphasizing that Egypt’s stability and safety were key factors behind the success of the bid. He also revealed that the Federation will work closely with tourism partners to organize accompanying programs for players and families, including excursions in Sharm El-Sheikh and visits to the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo.
The 2027 World Cup will also mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of the World Darts Federation, adding even greater significance to the event. Egypt’s proposal included a special celebratory program to commemorate this milestone and enhance international participation.
The Egyptian Darts Federation will begin preparations immediately upon returning from South Korea, following a timeline coordinated with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the WDF. The next steps include the official signing of the hosting agreement with the WDF President, followed by an international press conference in Cairo to formally announce Egypt as the official host of the 2027 WDF World Cup.
