The Founder & the President of the Egyptian Darts Federation (EDF)

Being a devoted fan of darts and a close watcher of the game, Dr. Yehia became increasingly

interested therein; and recognizing the fact that Egypt players were self-reliant in the

organization of relevant tournaments and events with no dedicated entity in place to take

Care of the game in Egypt or the Arab region, Dr. Yehia decided to found the Egyptian Darts

Federation (EDF), the first in the Arab Word. It took one year for Dr. Yehia to prepare for

Launching the federation; he spent much time watching the players in Cairo and nationwide;

he gathered information relevant to the game and read many books thereabout before translating those into Arabic.

In 2009, Dr. Yehia started the legal procedures for the accreditation of his federation, a process that took five years before he got the final approval. In 2014, EDF became an official organization and a member of the World Darts Federation (WDF).

In March 2015, EDF organized the first tournament for the classification of Egyptian darts players for both genders.

In 2019, EDF organized Egyptian Darts Open it’s first official international Darts tournament that was included on the agenda of the World Darts Federation (WDF) that took place in the coastal city of Marsa Alam. In the same year, the WDF also participated in the World Cup Championship in Romania, with that Egypt registered as the first Arab country to participate in the Darts World Cup. Egypt was ranked at the Bronze level within the Eastern European Group in the new classification system of WDF.

After it spread quickly in Egypt, most local sports clubs rushed to include the game among the activities thereof, and to win EDF membership and to partake in the general assembly thereof.

Dr. Yehia  wishes if Arab and African countries could hastily pursue the Egyptian model and found local darts federations in order to open the door for the foundation of Arab and African federations; he is looking forward to hosting international darts championships in Egypt on annual basis to be put on the WDF agenda.
